Equatorial Guinea Hosts The 3rd ASA Summit
Obiang Welcomes Heads of State from African and South American Countries
MALABO, Equatorial Guinea, Feb. 21 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Government of Equatorial Guinea marked the opening of the third Africa-South America (ASA) Summit yesterday at the Sipopo Conference Center in Malabo.
The summit's theme this year is "Strategies and Mechanisms to Strengthen South-South Cooperation." On the opening day, officials from Africa and South America stressed their commitment to strengthen relations. After a series of meetings, they will propose a number of projects that will benefit both regions politically and economically.
Activities for this year's summit began yesterday with the Meeting of Senior Officials, which focused on obtaining financial support to implement projects proposed by the ASA partnership. Today, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, such as Agapito Mba Mokuy of Equatorial Guinea, will meet to select which projects to move forward. To conclude the summit, Heads of State from various African and South American countries will convene to address the summit's theme of South-South cooperation.
