After having two birth children, adopting five daughters and two sons and taking constant care of two grandchildren seven months and two years (7 month old with special needs), Detroiters Brenda and Jimmy Brown welcome help from the Adopt-A-Child Annual Christmas party at Cobo Hall this Friday, December 3rd at 6 pm. The Browns will receive badly needed warm clothing and toys while other family members serve as volunteers for the program. Thousands of other needy families will also be there to receive an early Christmas.
"We struggle on my husband's fixed income after my Day Care business closed," said Brenda Brown. "Parents lost their jobs and couldn't bring their children anymore. With church and prayer we keep hanging on," she adds.
That's why seventy-seven year old Delores Bennett created the Adopt-A-Child program. "It changes the lives. If it hadn't been for the Browns these kids would have ended up in Foster Care. They are the reason we exist," she says.
