Paparazzi Photo Agency Partner Reflects With His Seventies Avant-Garde Imagery at Venice, CA Exhibition
Brad Elterman photographing Pop Culture Once Again Introduces New Book 'Like It Was Yesterday'
LOS ANGELES, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Seventies iconic photographer Brad Elterman (www.bradelterman.com/2008/exhibits.html), once crowned with the name of "Teenage Paparazzo" by Celebrities and Glitterati three decades ago, brings his classic imagery to Equator Books inVenice, California from May 9 to June 30. Elterman was persistent when it came to coveringLos Angeles pop culture from 1974 to 1984; his raw photographs show that nothing prevented him from covering a subject, publicist approval or not.
Elterman took and sold his first photograph at the age of 16 and embarked on a decade-long mission to cover pop culture. "Most of the time I had an excellent relationship with bands like The Ramones or the Sex Pistols back then," said Elterman. "We were all about the same age and would all hang out at The Tropicana Motel or the Rainbow Bar And Grill. If I was turned down on a photo shoot, like was the case of David Bowie in 1975, I just found out where he was recording, showed up and took his photo. Looking back now the photo I did of Bowie smiling at me from inside his dirty Mercedes is a classic compared to a mundane photo of him performing onstage holding a microphone."
"The exhibit and Brad's new book, 'Like It Was Yesterday,' present images that freeze in time moments from an era that is no more," says Equator Books owner Michael Deyermond. "It was a time when photographers had unencumbered access to the great stars and musicians of the day. Images like these just cannot be duplicated today."
